Elkab (el-Kab, Nekheb, Eileithyiaspolis)
(25°07' N 32°48'E)

Important settlement and cemetery site in Upper Egypt with remains of all periods. The main temple was dedicated to Nekhbet, the vulture goddess, who was one of the two titulary goddesses of the Egyptian king (the other is Wadjet, cobra goddess of Buto - see nebty name). The town is situated in southern Upper Egypt, on the East Bank, just opposite Hierakonpolis (Nekhen). The towns formed in effect a twin city.
