Amarna: fragments of Mycenaean Pottery

At Amarna Petrie uncovered large quantities of sherds from distinctive small Mycenaean vessels, of closed forms suitable for the transport and presentation of small quantities of precious liquids. It may be presumed that these contained scented oils, imported into Egypt from Mycenaean territories in what is now Greece; there has not yet been a reliable identification of the contents.

In the terminology of Greek archaeology, these sherds may be identified as from Aegean Late Helladic III A2 pottery.
