The resources on this website explore the collections of six museums, all with objects from ancient Egypt and in particular, objects excavated by William Flinders Petrie or by the British School of Archaeology in Egypt, an organization begun by Petrie. Objects from these excavations were given to museums all over the world. Many were published, but the whereabouts of the actual objects has often been lost. The aim is to reactivate these collections and make this valuable data available to the public for the first time. To find out more about our collections, click on one of the names below.

Through the on-line searchable database, Collections of Virtual Egypt and Sudan, or COVES, these important collections can be explored individually or as a combined database. With the Museum object/site inventories, objects from the same archaeological excavations can be ‘virtually’ reunited once again. In addition, Virtual Kahun offers an opportunity to explore an ancient city site excavated by Petrie.

We also aim to increase children's knowledge and awareness of ancient Egyptian material culture through on-line, database-related educational resources. Many of these resources can also be used in the classroom or in conjunction with museum visits.
