Technology Management

ISIC-logo

MSSL's Technology Management Group (TMG) is concerned with the development, management and exploitation of technology within an enterprise context, and carries out research, teaching and consultancy in relevant areas.

We have particular expertise in the development of complex spacecraft instrumentation, for which the environmental constraints are extremely challenging, quality is of paramount importance and the budgets of time, cost and risk are tight.

We have recently become members of the International Space Innovation Centre (ISIC) in Oxford, where we are responsible for delivering a programme of continual professional development courses in systems engineering, project management and technology management, and have mentored winners of a recent NASA Space Applications competition on how to exploit their ground-breaking ideas.

We are interested in the practical side of managing technology developments, including managing the risk of technology projects, as well as the more creative aspects of planning technologies for uncertain futures, and developing innovative concepts for technology.

We look to apply the knowledge developed in space instrumentation development to other fields, such as:

  • Rail
  • Energy
  • Aerospace
  • Defence
  • Construction
  • Health
  • Communications
  • Mining
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Agriculture
  • Government

Through UCL Centre for Systems Engineering (UCLse), TMG also supports projects and activities in MSSL, other UCL departments including the newly formed MSSL Australia, and associated institutions and partner companies.
