Solar Physics

Since it was formed, the Group has worked on a number of different solar physics hardware projects, mostly relating to fabricating instruments that work at ultra-violet and X-ray wavelengths.

We are the Principal Investigating institute for the Extreme Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) aboard the Hinode satellite. Hinode was launched in September 2006 and the combination of instuments on board are enabling study of the interaction between the Sun's magnetic field and its corona to increase our understanding of the causes of solar variability.

More information about Hinode and EIS can be found at theĀ Hinode/EIS website.
