Project

"Co-Registration and Terrain Correction in Dynamic Landmarking of Martian Surface Features and Comparison with Methods Used in Previous Research in Martian Surfaces"
Supervisors: Prof. Jan-Peter Muller and Dr. Panagiotis Sidiropoulos

With the advance of imaging technology over 40 years of observations, changes over Martian surfaces have been investigated, mostly by manually comparing multi-temporal single-instrument images. There are a lot of dynamical features observed on the surface of Mars, especially over the South Polar Residual Cap (SPRC). There should be a lot more identifiable and unknown surface features and changes than the features observed currently, but without processing such as auto-coregistration and orthorectification as well as systematic and automatic identification, pole-wide and planet-wide identification is not possible. Systematic and automatic object recognition and change detection algorithm is proposed to identify these surface features and their changes, focusing on the SPRC.
