Computing Support
MSSL's core computing infrastructure is a cluster of Linux servers and
workstations served by a 60 Tbyte, fibre-attached storage area network.
The SAN has redundant file servers which run the Red Hat Global File
System. In addition, workgroups support specialist scientific
activities, computer-aided design by our engineers and data archives.
MSSL hosts the Solar UK Research Facility.
Access to the academic SuperJANET network and the Internet is provided
by a 1Gbps fibre-optic circuit to UCL. The link also supports connection
between the department's premises on the UCL campus and MSSL; this
provides UCL-based students with remote access to MSSL's computing
facilities and databases.
