Professor Mark Saunders
Mark Saunders is Professor of Climate Prediction in the Department of Space and Climate Physics at University College London (UCL). He is Lead Scientist at the award-winning Tropical Storm Risk (TSR) venture, and also Director of TSR Business which offers products for the real-time mapping and prediction of tropical cyclone windfields worldwide. Professor Saunders has published over 300 scientific research papers and articles, including lead-author papers in Nature. His team has developed a range of innovative and successful prediction models and products for many of the world's most damaging climate and weather extremes. These include Atlantic, US and Caribbean hurricanes, Northwest Pacific typhoons, Australian cyclones, El Niño and La Niña, the North Atlantic and Arctic Oscillations, North Atlantic and European winter storms, drought, and UK and European temperatures. Mark has engaged with the (re)insurance industry for over a decade, and is a frequent invited speaker at their conferences and workshops.
