MSING011: Creativity and Innovation in Organisations

Aims
The purpose of this course is to introduce the process of innovation
within organisations and to identify key factors which influence its success.
Specifically, the course will cover topics such as:
- The factors that drive behaviour in organisations
- How individuals in organisations can become better at generating creative ideas
- How teams can work together effectively on creative ideas and solutions
- Ways to help new ideas and ways of working to gain acceptance in the organisation
- The steps within the new product development process
- How to develop a culture for innovation and the relationship between innovation and organisational strategy
Objectives
By the end of this course students will be able to leverage the tools
and techniques stimulate new ideas and mobilize support for their development.
This will require an understanding of:
- The need for teams, rather than individuals, to nurture new products through their development
- Decision-making environment and strategies that influence the decision-making process of teams and organisations
- The characteristics of organisations, their appetite for new product development and strategies for successful innovation
