Gillian Lacey-Solymar's Biography
Gillian Lacey-Solymar is a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Department of MS&I. She has been teaching at UCL for over 15 years, covering Innovation and Entrepreneurship. She also interviews leading entrepreneurs for UCL Ventures on a weekly basis.
Gillian has an entrepreneurial venture of her own: “Perfect Manors”. This is a Scottish-based business consisting of a portfolio of properties, focused on special occasions.
Gillian holds an MA from Oxford in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and an MBA from INSEAD. On leaving Oxford, she joined McKinsey and Company as a consultant. She participated in and managed a wide range of studies including: establishing a new financial institution focused on emerging markets in Europe; evaluating British aid to the developing world and developing a diversification strategy for one of the country’s leading consumer goods companies.
In 1994 Gillian joined the BBC as an on air Correspondent. She had a slot broadcasting on the BBC’s daily business programme Working Lunch. She was also the first Business and Economics Correspondent for the News Channel. Her other work includes two seasons on Newsnight, as well as on Radio 4’s Moneybox. She left the BBC in 2010 to focus on teaching and running her own business.
