David Carmichael
Profile
At present, I work at the Department of clinical and Experimental Epilepsy (DCEE), Institute of Neurology (IoN) as a Senior Research Fellow.
The IoN provides teaching and research of the highest quality in neurology and the neurosciences and has achieved the highest research rating. Within this organisation the department DCEE excels in both basic and clinical scientific research in many complementary disciplines. The role of this MRC funded position is to investigate and improve the efficacy of scalp EEG-fMRI for localisation of epileptic activity and to investigate the feasibility of simultaneous intracranial EEG-fMRI.
Interests
My interests encompass the development of novel neuroimaging techniques, combinations, and applications. My current work is focussed on using functional MRI and electroencephalography (EEG) to better understand epilepsy and how to treat it surgically. I have particular experience in MRI pulse sequence and hardware development as well as MRI safety and am increasingly involved in using new methods to combine and process data from different modalities such as EEG and fMRI.
