Centre for Intensive Care Medicine
The aim of the Centre for Intensive Care Medicine is to
promote and maintain good clinical practice in intensive care medicine
through research activities and the educational programme.
The Centre's research activities are focused on the study and management
of critical illness, tissue oxygenation, vascular hyporeactivity and
mitochondrial dysfunction in sepsis utilising both clinical and
laboratory investigations . We postulate that multiple organ failure
arising from severe infection is a result of bioenergetic failure. In
addition to our research we also run a busy educational programme for
both medical staff and allied professions and are very active in
book-writing.
