UCL Division of Medicine
The UCL Division of Medicine is the largest department in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, within the School of Life and Medical Sciences, forming one of the largest concentrations of biomedical scientists in Europe in one of the world's leading universities.
The faculty comprises 130 principal investigators, including 5 Fellows of the Royal Society, 15 members of the Academy of Medical Sciences and 3 Senior Investigators of the National Institute for Health Research.
The Division aims to:
• Educate, train, and inspire the next generation of scientists and clinicians.
• Be at the international forefront of biomedical research from lab bench to bedside.
• Attract, retain and develop the most gifted biomedical researchers and teachers at all levels.
• Together with UCL’s partner hospitals, develop and deliver outstanding patient care.
Our research aims to understand the basis of
disease, and to develop better diagnostics and treatments for diseases with an emphasis on experimental medicine.

The Division’s clinical academics are active as
physicians in partner hospitals, with programmes of national and international
standing in major medical specialties.
The Division of Medicine comprises six Research Departments and Institutes located on the UCL Bloomsbury and Royal Free Campuses. The Division is closely linked with its partner hospitals: University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and the Whittington NHS Trust, which form the teaching hospitals of the Medical School. Each Research Department or Institute comprises a number of Centres each led by a senior member of faculty and with a particular research focus:
