Electronic books
Both UCL and the NHS subscribe to a number of electronic books. These are identical to the printed version, however they are fully searchable, allowing you to find the sections and illustrations of most use to you. Those which allow you to login also allow you to add notes and bookmarks which you can view again later.
Available to UCL staff and students
The UCL Library Services website includes a list of available e-books. Links to useful collections of ebooks for biomedicine are available via Metalib.
Available to NHS staff
NHS staff have access to e-books via NICE Evidence Services (formerly NHS Evidence). These require an NHS ATHENS account for access.
Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust staff also have access to a range of Oxford Textbooks and a variety of titles via NetLibrary and 48 biomedical and health related textbooks via Books@Ovid from publishers including Oxford University Press, Lippincott Williams and Wilkins and McGraw Hill. An NHS ATHENS account is required for access. Details on how to use NetLibrary titles is available from the UCL Library Services website.
Note: NHS staff may also access a number of collections via the UCL walk-in computers in the library, including:
- PsycBOOKS - Over 900 books published by the American Psychological Association
