We have particular expertise in undergraduate and postgraduate assessment. UCLMS faculty have been involved in the design, delivery and implementation of several well-respected UK and international examinations, for example, the internationally recognised MRCP examination. Our work in assessment research and development has been done collaboratively with the GMC, the Medical Royal Colleges and the GMC Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB).
A variety of written assessment resources is offered from our undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including question banks and “Testing the Tests” pilot events. We have training days to support item writing for computer-marked questions for both examination and selection purposes. We also run events for training all aspects of test design and development, including test blueprinting and standard setting.
We are experts in the design and delivery of clinical assessments. These can take place in our Clinical Assessment Centre, which has been purpose-designed to host clinical training and assessment events, or other venues, such as education or postgraduate centres. Customers include the GMC, Royal College of Physicians, National Clinical Assessment Service and Royal College of Paediatrics & Child Health. We run regular validation events to test the face and content validity of new clinical assessments. Much of this work is done to support the UK’s GMC Fitness to Practise procedures, so we aspire to the highest standards of assessment practice.
