On the face of it, this feels like a great thing for British science, particularly the British Antarctic Survey and NERC, who have had a difficult few years, given that the work they do is expensive and dependent on large investments in kit. But this ship would appear to be the latest in a series of announcements of gifts to science which were in fact things that had been previously taken away, says Dr Jack Stilgoe (UCL Science & Technology Studies) in The Guardian.
