Research Interests
Physiological and industrial flow modelling, wave scattering

My research is concerned with developing mathematical models of problems from medicine and industry to gain greater understanding of a system or observed phenomenon and to enable predictions of system behaviour. I am particularly interested in (i) internal single and multi-phase fluid flows in branching networks with collapsible tubes and (ii) coated bubble dynamics, acoustics and wave phenomena. Applications of my current research include treatment of cerebrovascular abnormalities, microbubble contrast agents, duct acoustics and long-range sound propagation. The problems I study involve challenging aspects of fluid mechanics such as local and global interaction across a network, interaction of a fluid with complex flexible structures, wave scattering and diffraction. My research utilises asymptotic and perturbation methods, including multiple-scales analysis, along with numerical techniques such as finite-difference, spectral and lattice-Boltzmann methods.
