Research Interests
Geophysical Fluid Dynamics with emphasis on Nonlinear Wave Dynamics, Boundary Layers and Flow Separation

I am interested in applying modern theories of nonlinear dispersive waves, integral equations, boundary layers and highly accurate spectral integrations to the propagation and scattering of finite-amplitude waves and eddies in the oceans and atmosphere. Particular applications include finite-amplitude coastal waves and obtaining the analogue of open-channel hydraulic behaviour in describing phenomena like coastal upwelling with its impact on coastal ecology and fisheries. Other applications include describing the separation and eddy generation by large coastal flows like the Gulf Stream and Agulhas Current with their impact on global heat transport and hence on climate.
