My research concerns the modelling and analysis of issues related to
security and crime, using methods from complexity science. This involves
the use of non-linear dynamics, both discrete and continuous,
simulation methods, and network theory. Present areas of application
include the spatio-temporal modelling of both residential burglary and
large-scale public disorder.

Free-surface flows beneath an ice sheet
The research is concerned with a study of linear and non-linear waves propagating in a fluid bounded above by a sheet of ice. Such waves can be generated by a load moving on the ice sheet. The research is motivated by applications to transport systems in cold regions, where bodies of water are transformed into roads and runways and where air-cushioned vehicles are used to break the ice.
