Christina Pagel wins prestigious Harkness Fellowship

1 February 2016

Dr Christina Pagel, Reader in UCL's Clinical Operational Research Unit (CORU) and the UCL Department of Applied Health Research (DAHR), has been awarded a Harkness Fellowship in Health Care Policy and Practice by the Commonwealth Fund. Considered one of the most prestigious in health policy, up to sixteen Harkness Fellowships are awarded each year, of which four are to candidates from the U.K. In the U.K., the Harkness Fellowships are co-sponsored by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and The Health Foundation.

Mission of The Commonwealth Fund

The mission of The Commonwealth Fund is to promote a high performing health care system that achieves better access, improved quality, and greater efficiency, particularly for society's most vulnerable. The International Program in Health Policy and Practice Innovations is designed to stimulate innovative policies and practices in the United States and other industrialised countries.

Based in the U.S.

For twelve months starting in September 2016, Dr. Pagel will be based in the U.S. conducting research about barriers to the implementation and use of health information technology in hospitals. She will be placed at a top U.S. research institution working with leading U.S. experts and studying health care delivery reforms and critical issues on the health policy agenda in both the U.S. and the U.K. She will also gain valuable insight into international health care systems through interaction with health policy experts, as well as with other Harkness Fellows.

You can read more about Christina's background on her UCL IRIS page and further information about the Commonwealth Fund and the Harkness Fellowships.
