Picture of the Week
As the Dark Energy Survey begins its second year of observations, UCL scientists are at the forefront of its science programme. This week's 'Picture of the Week' is galaxy NGC 1398, snapped during the survey's observations.
Dennis Lindley – in memoriam
19 December 2013
We are sad to learn of the death of our former colleague, Dennis Lindley.
Dennis was Professor of Statistics and Head of the Department of Statistics at UCL from 1967 to 1977. It was during this period that his most influential work – and it was truly influential, he began a revival of Bayesian statistics which continues to have a major impact on the subject – was carried out.
He was a revolutionary in the best traditions of UCL, questioning the accepted view of statistical inference and arguing passionately and convincingly in favour of the Bayesian approach.
