15 undergraduate students from underprivileged backgrounds will receive £10,000 a year throughout the three years of their studies at UCL, thanks to a £450,000 charitable gift made by the Reuben Foundation.

A new centre dedicated to the understanding and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases will be established at UCL following the award of a £20million grant from the Wolfson Foundation.The grant is the largest single award ever made by the Foundation and one of the largest philanthropic donations in UCL’s history.

For the third year running UCL's Regular Giving team has generated over £500,000 in philanthropic donations from generous alumni and friends, which each year is used to support scholarships, research and the work of departments across UCL.

UCL President and Provost Professor Malcolm Grant recently hosted UCL alumni, staff, former staff and friends at an afternoon tea in the South Cloisters to celebrate legacy giving to UCL.

UCL President & Provost Malcolm Grant has officially reopened the Lewis's Building.

The new-look building is part of the university's overall strategy to open up the space, improve the approach to UCL and to continue to provide students with an excellent experience.

On Monday 21st of March, UCL hosted the inaugural student-led Scholarships and Bursaries reception, celebrating the impact of philanthropic support for students at UCL reports Emily Peirson-Webber (UCL Development and Alumni Relations). 

The Provost’s Circle is a collective of individuals who have each pledged a gift of £1,000 or more to UCL in the last twelve months, and together want to help to shape the university’s future.

Mrs Lori Manders has been appointed Director of Development and Alumni Relations at UCL, with effect from 1 February 2011.

Recent news headlines could leave you thinking philanthropy is the last thing on the minds of graduating students, but UCL’s class of 2008 has proved this isn’t the case.  In the last year an unprecedented proportion of gifts to UCL have come from recent graduates.  The big boost was an unexpected gesture of support from many who have left to join the working world only a short time ago.  

A group of UCL’s most generous donors saw first hand the impact of their support at a celebration of philanthropy at the university on 13 January.Alumni and other UCL supporters met students who have benefited from scholarships and bursaries they had funded, and learned from a number of senior academics about initiatives their gifts had made possible, from neonatal resuscitation research to the refurbishment of libraries and laboratories.

Grants from UCL Futures this year helped academics enhance their courses, take learning beyond the lecture theatre, and apply the university's unique breath of knowledge and expertise in the wider world.

The future of UCL’s printed past has now been secured, thanks to the donation of grants worth almost £19,000 from UCL Futures.

Donors to UCL were thanked at an event on 5 June 2008, at which UCL President and Provost Professor Malcolm Grant announced that gifts, pledges and other commitments to the Campaign for UCL have now surpassed the £100 million mark. 

UCL Futures – the UCL alumni giving programme – raised  £325,646 in the 2006/2007 academic year, a 10% increase on the previous year, marking three consecutive years of steady growth in income and donor participation for the fund.

A team of UCL staff and students overcame sand storms and extreme winds to successfully complete the Panasonic World Solar Challenge, a 3,021Km race from Darwin to Adelaide in solar-powered cars. The team finished 10th out of 21 cars in their class, taking just over 63 hours - including compulsory stops - at an average speed of 43kmh.
