β2 Integrin Adhesion Complexes Maintain the Integrity of HIV-1 Assembly Compartments in Primary Macrophages

HIV assembly in human macrophages takes place in intracellular compartments that remain connected to the cell surface through narrow channels. The membranes associated with these compartments are often decorated with thick electron-dense coats. here we show that these coat structures contain integrins and focal adhesion proteins and are involved in maintaining the organisation of the intracellular HIV assembly compartments.
