UCL recognises equality and diversity as key to its academic, social and business success. The LMCB was one of the first UCL departments to be awarded SILVER status in the Athena SWAN (Scientific Women's Academic Network) recognition scheme (in 2009, renewed in 2012) for its good practice in gender equality. In 2016 we were awarded GOLD status, the first UCL Department to be recognised as working at this level of excellence and held by only a few other University Departments. This essentially demonstrates a cultural shift in attitudes and working practices so that good practice is the norm (#simplygoodpractice). We expect to be making improvements over many years to come (Athena Work).
We welcome applications from those from an ethnic minority, as they are under-represented within the LMCB.
We welcome, encourage and support formal and informal arrangements for flexible working at all levels. See UCL’s Work Life Balance policy.
We provide a guide to academic career opportunities for Students and Postdocs.
We offer a number of Beacon Activities including the UCL speaker list for molecular and cell biology.
