Unit 1: Facilitating Professional Development (15 credits)
• What it is to be a professional
• Exploring professional development
• Skills audit, reflection and planning
• Learning Theories
• Developing reflective practice
Unit 2: Preparing for Research in Speech and Language Therapy
• IT and e-learning skills
• Presentation and writing skills
• Ethics in professional practice
• Clinical governance
• Developing specialist knowledge in own field of practice
• Linking learning with the Knowledge and Skills Framework and Professional Registration requirements
Assessment:
Formative assessment (Mandatory): Verbal presentation. (Non-mandatory): Essay draft.
Summative assessment: Portfolio containing the following elements: an evidence based skills assessment, a piece of reflective writing, an essay, material for a verbal presentation, evaluation of a literature search, evaluation and evidence of skills development.
