I have been at UCL for 15 years now. I was admitted to the BSc programme as a mature student via what might be described as a 'non-standard route'. The fact that UCL, unlike many universities, still interviews the vast majority of undergraduate applicants before making an offer means that students are selected on potential and on an individual basis. At first I was overawed to find myself at a university with the status and reputation that UCL enjoys. However, the support given to students and the very friendly atmosphere soon put me at ease. This is something that a prospectus simply cannot adequately convey; but the nurturing and collegiate atmosphere at UCL is one of the reasons that students both reach their potential and remain so fond of the university after they graduate. For the last five years I have worked in the UCL International Office where I am currently International Development Manager. It's a very exciting time to be at UCL, as the University is increasingly recognised as one of the best universities not just in the UK but in the world too. I will always be grateful for the opportunity that UCL provided me and I am proud to have studied here. UCL is a very special place with, I believe, an ethos that is unique among UK universities. I am happy to be in a position where I can use the skills and perspectives that a UCL education has provided to help benefit the university. 1999- present: International Office, UCL 1996-1999: Postdoctoral Research Fellow, Department of Biology, UCL 1996: Short-term Wain Fellowship, University of Geneva, Switzerland 1992-1996: PhD in Botany, Department of Biology, UCL: Nuclear Transformation and Gene Expression in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. 1989-1992: BSc Zoology, UCL |
