Studying Biology at UCL allowed me many extraordinary opportunities to do all
kinds of things I'd dreamed of, as well as things I never could have. This
included the chance to work in Ecuador, collecting butterflies for evolution
studies, which experience then led to many more such adventures. I came to set
up a conservation project with the Shiwiar people in the Ecuadorian Amazon,
where I studied ethnobotany: you can read more on www.shiwiar.net. This project was really
exciting but as I needed to earn a living I decided to move away from that for a
time. Now I am working as brand/graphic designer but maintain my interest and
contact with the various tropical conservation projects I've worked on.
The balance between having a trade (graphic design, which I love) and the chance to have adventures and visit rare and wonderful places is excellent. I still have one or two ongoing conservation/ethnobotany projects on the back burner, waiting for a chance to come to fruition. I feel extremely enriched and privileged by my experiences at UCL and will always be thankful for and celebrate the time I had there and the many friendships I formed. |
