A A A

Carly Dix (Biology 2003)

I had an excellent time at UCL both academically and socially.  The Biology degree programme was particularly suited to my needs; after my A levels I felt completely unable to pinpoint any one branch of biology that I found most interesting and so opted for the generalised Biology degree option at UCL. During the course of my degree, my interests started focussing in on molecular and cellular biology, and particularly developmental biology, and hence I steered my studies in this direction. I have now been able to make an informed decision about the area of biology that I wish to study in the long term.

I am now privileged to be one of five students on the Wellcome Trust four-year PhD Programme at the University of Cambridge.  This inter-departmental scheme allows us to carry out three rotation projects in the first year in research groups in various departments. Then, based on this experience, we choose one of the labs to stay in for the three year PhD project.  We also have been involved in teaching courses in experimental biology and a wide range of aspects of developmental biology.

I would like to add that I really appreciate the support and guidance given to me by various members of staff at UCL, and that I am grateful for all the time and effort they gave to help me achieve my very best.
