| Module outline: | The course provides the opportunity to undertake an individual review of published literature on a specified topic under supervision. You will develop skills in searching literature databases, reading and critically evaluating published work and presenting it in a scientific report. |
| Module aims: | To allow students to make an in-depth study of published literature on a specified topic of biological interest. |
| Module objectives: | Students will be given the opportunity to learn how to: find an area of scientific research that is suitable for review, search databases for relevant recent scientific literature, collate and summarise research findings from the primary research literature as well as from reviews, write up their literature survey in the style of an article for an established scientific journal, convey their research results to others in an oral presentation, organise their time in order to carry out and analyse their literature survey within a 6-week period. |

| Notes: | Please note that you will be asked to indicate preferred topics from a list provided by the course organiser. He, in conjunction with the BSc tutors, will then assign specific projects. This central system is felt to be fairer and more open to one in which students make private arrangements with supervisors. You are of course encouraged to discuss potential choices with the supervisor, to assist in establishing your preferences. All projects must be agreed by the course organiser. |
