| Module outline: | This course provides an overview of research design and data analysis (both quantitative and qualitative) and a critical framework to view and contribute to the evidence-base relating to CBT with children and young people. This provides the basis for study around the thesis topic and individual research following a recognized/referenced research method. There will also be a focus on development of skills in preparation, analysis and presentation of work. |
| Module aims: | There are two main aims of the module. Firstly, for student to complete a dissertation (10,000 to 12,000 words) on a particular aspect of CBT practice with children and young people. Secondly, to further develop their CBT skills with children and young people through on-going group supervision of their CBT practice with children. The dissertation will involve three components: 1. Literature review 2. Empirical study 3. Critical appraisal |
| Module objectives: | Knowledge and understanding: - To demonstrate advanced knowledge of the theoretical, developmental and evidence base of CBT for children and young people. Intellectual (thinking) skills: - To evaluate critically the empirical and theoretical basis of CBT with children and young people. - To apply theoretical understanding in the design and conduct of a piece of relevant empirical research Skills and other attributes: - To communicate effectively in writing in using a clear and structured approach to theoretical material - To communicate effectively in group discussion - To study independently |
