Module prerequisites:Basic knowledge of syntax and basic familiarity with compositional semantics. Students are strongly advised to take Advanced Semantic Theory A (PLING218) first.  
Module outline:Advanced Semantic Theory B is a continuation of Advanced Semantic Theory A (PLING218), providing students with further background and skills necessary to engage with current research in formal semantics in the field of theoretical linguistics. Further emphasis is placed on putting skills to practice, through reading and critical evaluation of primary literature.  
Module aims:(i) to introduce advanced tools necessary to engage with current research in formal semantics; (ii) to foster the ability to compare and evaluate competing (semantic) theories; (iii) to consider the connection between semantics and other aspects of linguistic competence  
Module objectives:(i) mastery of advanced tools necessary to engage with current research in formal semantics; (ii) ability to critically evaluate theoretical proposals in semantics; (iii) awareness of how semantics relates to and interacts with other aspects of linguistic knowledge
