Cloud-Based Toolkits for Subtitlers

This one-day course will introduce you to the first online toolkit for subtitlers - OOONA Online Captions & Subtitles.

The workshop is suitable for both translation students and professionals.

This course is run by CenTraS - Centre for Translation Studies at UCL.

Course content

Part 1

The day will start with an overview of subtitling training approaches in general and the evolution of cloud-based technology for subtitlers.

A discussion will follow on the opportunities and potentials offered by cloud-based subtitling technology as opposed to traditional software programs.

Part 2

During the second part of the course, you'll be introduced to the main functions of OOONA Online Captions & Subtitles Toolkit.

You'll be guided through the process of captioning and subtitling, revision and file conversion along with many other toolkits integrated in the e-platform.

Having completed a series of tasks, you'll be able to:

  • create your own subtitling project
  • use OOONA Online Captions & Subtitles Toolkit

You'll leave with a general understanding of cloud-based subtitling technology - the future approach to subtitling practices.

Some time will be left at the end for questions.

You'll receive a list of useful websites and other sources of information to take away with you.

The course is open to freelance translators, undergraduate and postgraduate translation students, translation tutors and researchers.
