Leighton Correspondence - MS ADD 72

The Wellington Memorial, sketch by F.C. Penrose 1 folder

Letters of the artist and President of the Royal Academy, Frederic Leighton, Baron Leighton of Stretton (1830-1896), relating to the memorial to Arthur Wellesley, Duke of Wellington in St Paul's Cathedral, 1891-1894. The monument was designed and constructed by Alfred Stevens, artist. However, it remained unfinished at his death and was posthumously moved to its originally intended position, thanks to a fund set up by Leighton for the purpose.
