The Library is located in the DMS Watson Building on Malet Place. The easiest way to access it is to enter Malet Place via Torrington Place and walk down towards the archway visible in the distance. The building is located on the left hand side just before the archway is reached.
All floors of the Science Library are accessible by lift and there are
ramps leading to reading rooms throughout the building. We also offer a range of other

Self Service
The UCL Science Library now has self-service facilities for borrowing, renewing and returning one week and standard loan books.
Borrowing, Renewing and More
Three quick and easy to use Smart Serve machines are located in the Learning Laboratory on the ground floor. Just scan the barcode on the back of your Library card and enter your PIN number (set initially as 4 digits, DDMM of your birthday) to borrow and renew your books, to check reservations and view your Library account.
The machines will produce an optional receipt after each transaction showing the date and time that your loans are due back.
These facilities offer the ease and speed of multiple book issue.
Returning
The Learning Laboratory also has two machines for returning one week and standard loan books. Unlike an ordinary book drop, the machines
will clear the books from your Library account immediately. Just place a single book at a time into the machine. When you have
returned all of your books, the machine will produce a receipt for your records.
Remember that you can return as many books as you want, but only one at a time.
Short-loan collection room
The Science library has a self-contained short-loan collection which houses teaching collection items and other high demand reading list material on 3 hour or 2 day loan. Books can be borrowed and returned on the self service machines located within the short-loan room. An alarm will sound at the exit gate to the short loan collection if you try to take a book that is not issued to you out of the room and into the learning laboratory.
Please note, only UCL staff and students are eligible to borrow items from the short-loan collection.
Availability
Please consult the opening hours, above, for availability of the self service facilities.
Photocopying
There are 9 black-and-white photocopiers available for use on the ground floor of the Library.
These are supplemented by a photocopy card dispenser and re-charger. The nearest colour photocopier is located at the UCL Main Library.
Copy credit is added to the card in units of 20p to an amount of your choice (£50 maximum)
and under the new service printing costs break down to 5p per sheet of A4 (40p for colour).
IT provision
There are three Information Systems cluster rooms where UCL staff and students can access the full
range of available electronic resources through the Library
Services webpages.
Information Training Sessions
Regular training sessions on electronic library resources are held in the DMS Watson Teaching Cluster.
For dates and times see Library Information
Skills Training.
Print journal loans
Print journals are not borrowable in the Science Library.
Stores journals may be borrowed by staff only for one week but are available for reference only by students.
Inter Library Loans
Books and periodical articles which are not already held in any of the UCL libraries, and are not
easily available from any other nearby library to which UCL members have access may be requested on
inter-library loan. For further information see
Interlending & Document Supply.
