SCOAP3 Open Access Partnership

SCOAP3 is a partnership of publishers, libraries and funding agencies spearheaded by CERN that is converting High-Energy Physics journals to open access - at no cost to authors.

Ten journals are currently participating, including titles from Elsevier, Springer, and the Institute of Physics. The full list is available on the SCOAP3 website.

From January 2014, UCL authors can choose open access publication in these journals without paying fees, by following these steps:

  • Your research article must have been posted in the arXiv.org repository, and categorised with one of the four ‘HEP’ high energy physics categories
  • When you submit to a journal, indicate that you wish to under SCOAP3. You may need to supply your paper's arXiv number
  • Your paper will be published open access, under a CC BY licence
  • Your paper will be deposited in the SCOAP3 repository by the publisher
  • CERN will pay the article publication charge directly to the publisher - you do not need to apply for funding

Contact the Open Access Team for more information or assistance with publishing under the SCOAP3 Partnership.

Springer

springer

UCL is part of the UK Springer Compact agreement. This agreement allows corresponding authors from UCL to publish research and review papers, brief communications and continuing education papers, with immediate open access in 1,600 Springer subscription journals without any additional cost.

Once your paper is accepted, Springer will send you a link to their MyPublication form, where you need to select your affiliation. You will also need to agree to the open access terms (including the CC BY licence). Please give your UCL e-mail address rather than a private e-mail address: this enables Springer to identify you as eligible under the agreement.

Springer will contact us to verify that you are eligible for inclusion in the Compact agreement. If you would like any more information about the agreement, or to check your eligibility, please contact the Open Access Team.
