Information for

Staff and research postgraduates

Academic staff and research level postgraduates from fellow University of London Institutions are eligible to apply for a borrowing ticket (5 books at a time). A SCONUL Access Band A / SCONUL Research Extra Card is not required, provided the applicants staff or Ph.D / Mphil. student status is clearly indicated on their home institution card. To apply for this access, please bring a full and valid ID from the home institution (clearly indicating Ph.D / MPhil. student or staff status), standard proof of identity and address (see What do I need to bring with me? for details) and a passport-sized photograph.

Undergraduates and taught postgraduates

Taught postgraduates and undergraduates from fellow University of London Institutions are eligible to apply for a reference ticket without charge. To apply for this access, please bring full and valid ID from the home institution and standard proof of identity and address (see What do I need to bring with me? for details). Special arrangements apply for taught postgraduates from the Institute of Historical Research and the Institute for Latin American Studies.

Note for Birkbeck students: Birkbeck student ID cards do not display expiry dates. Birkbeck students should therefore go to Birkbeck Student Services to obtain a printout of their student profile which shows they are current students before coming to UCL.

Intercollegiate students

University of London students who are registered as intercollegiate students at UCL are entitled to register with the Library and borrow up to 10 books at a time. It is necessary to provide proof of intercollegiate status by getting a library application form countersigned by the relevant UCL course tutor or Head of Department (a letter confirming the student's status is also acceptable). The borrowing ticket is only issued for the period of the course taken at UCL.

Institute of Historical Research / Institute for Latin American Studies taught postgraduates

Taught postgraduates from these two Institutes from the School of Advanced Study are elegible to apply for a borrowing card (5 books at a time). To apply for this access, please bring full and valid ID from the home institution (which should clearly show your institution and degree level), standard proof of identity and address (see What do I need to bring with me? for details) plus a passport sized photograph.
