The principal collection for management is on the 2nd floor of the Science Library (also known as the DMS Watson Library). There may also be relevant material in the Main Library & in the Bartlett Library. See separate pages for maps and opening hours.
Book collections
The Library has its own classification scheme for arranging books on the
shelves; a typical classmark for an open-access book will consist of the name
of a subject (indicating a section of the library) followed by letters and
numbers denoting its classified position on the shelves in that section; e.g.
MANAGEMENT HD 69.P75 LOC is the classmark for Dennis Lock's book entitled "Project
management" where:
- MANAGEMENT is the book collection
- HD 69.P75 is the classification (all books with HD 69.P75 are about project
management)
- LOC is the first three letters of the author's surname
Other collections that you are likely to find useful are:
ECONOMICS (Main Library, Donaldson reading room), which contains
books on economic theory and practice.
LAW (Main Library, South, 1st floor), which includes material on
contract and company law.
ARCHITECTURE (Bartlett Library, 5th floor, Wates House), which also
houses management texts.
ENGINEERING (Science Library, 4th floor), as above.
LIBRARIANSHIP (Science Library, 1st floor), which covers information
management.
STORES (closed access); houses historic and rare material as well
as older and low-use items. For more information about Stores, click this link. To request an item from Stores, click here.
Use Explore to find the exact class mark (shelf location) of a book.
Journal collections
The MANAGEMENT PERIODICALS are shelved adjacent to the books
in the Science Library (2nd floor). Journals are available for reference use
only. For electronic journals, see below.

Material held in electronic form is available to registered members of UCL.
You will usually need your user id/password for Information Systems in order
to gain access to them.
Databases
The following resources may be of particular use to students of management:
- Social Sciences Citation Index, which indexes a wide range
of journals from 1981 onwards. The SSCI is one of the resources within Web
of Knowledge via MIMAS. For further information you can follow a number of online tutorials in various languages on the Web of Knowledge website by clicking here. You will need a browser running Flash Version 8 or higher to view these tutorials.
- EconLit, which indexes economics journals
etc. from 1969 onwards.
- Nexis UK (LexisNexis Business and News), which includes the full text news files of a substantial number of UK and international newpapers, including the Financial Times. Dates of coverage for individual newpapers varies. Also included are several magazines, such as The Economist, and company reports.
- FAME, which provides company data for over 3 million UK and Republic of Ireland companies. For further information see our
online tutorial.
For a complete list of databases available at UCL, see the list at: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/Library/database/.
Electronic journals
A range of electronic versions of journal titles is available to members of
UCL.
- To look for a particular title, go to the alphabetical list on the Library's
web pages at: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/Library/ejournal/. You will also find details there of the access arrangements for each title.
- Management titles can be browsed alphabetically by following the link to the e-journals page and then clicking on the “Subject” heading. From there, select "Business, Economy and Management" from the category list and choose a sub-category from the adjacent list to narrow down your search.
- A particularly useful electronic journal service for management students is JSTOR,
which gives access to long back-runs of selected titles. JSTOR is
available from http://uk.jstor.org/.
Exam papers
- For information about exam papers, and access to all undergraduate and postgraduate papers for the last 5 years up to 2010, go to http://www.ucl.ac.uk/Library/exam.shtml. Online papers for Management are available via this link, or, to access papers covering management modules within other subjects, go to the Digital Collections page, check the "Contains" box and enter the word "management" into the search box.
- Paper copies of exam papers for the current year for all Main and Science Library subjects are shelved in the Photocopying Room of the Main Library. Older papers are available in printed format and are kept in Stores. These can be requested by clicking here.
Web Resources
- CAROL is an on-line service offering direct links to the financial
pages of listed companies in Europe and the USA. It provides direct
access to company balance sheets, profit & loss statements, financial highlights and so forth.

Senate House Library houses useful book and periodical collections and offers online access to a number of valuable business and management databases. UCL staff and students are eligible to join the library and membership details can then be used to access online resources . Of particular interest to Management students are Business Source Premier (which includes online access to Harvard Business Review) and ABI-Inform.
The Marylebone site of the University
of Westminster Library holds materials on management and marketing. It
is available for reference use by any member of UCL, but
only academic staff and research postgraduates may borrow from there. (The
library
may however limit access to materials which are designated for its own taught
courses.)
The British Library Management and Business Studies collection is also a very useful resource
