| Step 3: Make your research Open Access |
If your funder specifies that publications should be deposited in UK PubMed Central, check whether your journal will submit the published version on your behalf.
If not, submit the final, accepted manuscript yourself via Europe PMC Plus.
If your funder requires publications to be made freely available online in an appropriate repository, you should submit your final, accepted manuscript to the UCL Discovery repository. Send your paper by email to discovery@ucl.ac.uk.
Submission to UCL Discovery is a good way to gain the advantages of Open Access even if your funder does not have an OA policy.
Wellcome Trust authors: making your research open access
If the journal has an author pays open access option that complies with the Wellcome Trust's policy, complete the publisher's form (more information). When you receive the invoice, fill in UCL's claim form for Wellcome Trust open access fees.
If the journal does not have a paid open access option, but allows deposit in UKPMC, check if the publisher will submit the published version on your behalf.
If not, then submit the final, accepted manuscript yourself via the UKPMC Manuscript Submission System.
For further advice about claiming open access fees, please contact open-access-funding@ucl.ac.uk.
