Research Funder Policies on Open Access

3 steps to complying with your funder's mandate:

Many research funders have adopted Open Access (OA) policies which mean that funding is conditional on some form of OA publication.

If your research is covered by one of these policies, you must ensure that your research is available online and is free at the point of use, in a way which is approved by your funder.

Failure to comply with funding conditions is potentially serious, and could affect future grants.

There are three steps to ensuring that you are compliant with your funder's policy:

  1. Check your funder's policy
  2. Check your publisher complies with your funder's policy
  3. Make your publication OpenAccess
