Borrowing Books

You’ll need:

  • Your UCL ID card. You enter the library, borrow books and log onto your account with the barcode on the back.
  • Your PIN is required for borrowing books from self-service machines at the Science and Eastman Libraries, and for logging onto your account online. Ask staff if you don’t know yours.
  1. Find books you need from the library catalogue http://www.ucl.ac.uk/library/explore/
  2. Take the books to staff at Issue Desks or Self-service machines.
  3. You’ll be given a date by which you need to return the book. The loan periods of books will be different depending on how in demand they are.
  4. Check your UCL email for notifications of requested book. You may need to bring them back before the due date if someone else needs it.
  5. Log into your UCL Library account regularly to check the due dates and renew your books if you need them for longer.
  6. Return books before or on the due date to staff at Issue Desks, to book bins outside of opening hours, or to the self-service returns machines at the Science and Eastman Libraries.
  7. Fines are charged on overdue books. See here for details.
