In Brief

E-Mail

The College Library Committee has decided that from the start of the 2000/2001 session Library Services should work towards sending all communications between itself and users by e-mail to UCL e-mail addresses.

The benefits to users will principally be speed of notification. Staff and students who would prefer to continue to receive print-on-paper notices via the internal college post may opt for this by contacting any Library Issue Desk.

Current Contents now available online

Current Contents Connect (produced by ISI) is a current awareness database that gives information on new journal articles in the fields of science, social science, technology, and arts & humanities. The files are updated weekly.

As well as allowing on-demand searching of the database (by subject, journal, author, etc.), the service offers E-mail Alerts; users can set up a profile of research interests, and once a week the results are automatically forwarded to their chosen e-mail address. (This may be of particular interest to those who have relied upon the now-defunct Autojournals facility in the BIDS ISI databases.)

Current Contents Connect is available via the Web of Science website at MIMAS.

Users need an ATHENS username and password to gain access; (ask at a Library enquiry desk for further details).

New Group Study Area

Library Services is aware of the importance of groupwork and teamwork for UCL students as part of their development of key skills. In order to support this trend it has designated a special group study area in the Science Library.

This can be found on the first floor of the Science Library outside the entrance to the Petrie Museum. Students can use this area for group discussions linked to their studies, without the fear of disturbing other users engaged in quiet study.

New Colour Copier

The Main Library now has a colour photocopier situated at the end of the Catalogue Hall. It takes normal library copycards at the following rates:

A4 deducts 10 units from a card - cost = 66p

A3 deducts 15 units from a card - cost = £1

Help with using the copier is available, on request, depending on the availability of staff.
