- Google Analytics
Most UCL web pages contain a Google Analytics tracking code to record anonymous information about the date and time of your visit, the type of browser you're using, your approximate geographic location and the URL of any page that led you to UCL's web site. That information is aggregated and used by UCL to identify usage trends on our site and to make decisions about which content or presentation styles are most effective.

- Re-targeted via programmatic marketing (relevant adverts)
- The UCL website uses re-targeting via programmatic marketing: this means that relevant adverts may be displayed to previous visitors of the UCL website when they visit other web pages. In order to do this, a cookie is saved to the visitors’ computers that will note that they have been to certain pages of the UCL website, which will then be used to serve adverts after the visit.The following components of the UCL website have Remarketing enabled:
Some UCL sites contain a simple button/icon linked to their corresponding Facebook page, which does not set a cookie. However, other sites use Facebook features (such as the ‘Like’ button) which do store information which is retrieved and used by Facebook, such as your IP address, approximate location, your browser type, the URL you're visiting, whether you're logged into Facebook, and your Facebook user ID.
Facebook uses this information for a number of its own features and services, as well as measuring the effectiveness of advertising. For more information, see Facebook's Data Policy.
- SoundCloud
The SoundCloud media player is used to stream audio to a web page. The player sets cookies that store non-identifiable data in Google Analytics. SoundCloud also use Flash cookies to synchronise information between multiple players – for instance, when one player starts on a page, another will stop. HTML5 local storage can also be used to set the default volumes for players, as preferred by users. For more information, see SoundCloud's Privacy Policy.
- YouTube
YouTube uses cookies to build video statistics, prevent fraud, and 'improve the site experience'. YouTube is now owned by Google. For more information, see Google’s Privacy Policy.
- Google Maps
Some of our pages have Google Maps embedded in them. Google may use cookies here to store user preferences or the last location you selected. Cookies are set to expire between 6 months and two years. For more information, see Google’s Privacy Policy.
- SiteAnalyze
SiteAnalyze is a web statistics service similar to Google Analytics. The SiteAnalyze cookie contains a random ID number used to recognise your browser when you view a page. The cookie stores no personally identifiable information and is used only for web analytics. The cookie is set to expire 1,000 days from the last date you visited the site.
- AddThis
Many web pages will have an 'AddThis' widget, which allows visitors to bookmark or share the web address via a social media site (e.g. Twitter, Delicious, etc.). AddThis do collect some non-identifiable information about users (such as which site visitors are coming from, the browser they use, and their general geographic location). AddThis will also use cookies to get information about visitors to tailor advertising content. For more information, see the AddThis Privacy Policy.
