Regions

There is no settled definition of regions in Britain but the following conforms to many classifications.

There are one or two points to note though: for these purposes London can include parts of Middlesex, Surrey, Kent and Essex as well as the Cities of London and Westminster. It's a matter of judgement as to placing someone in London. Bristol was not strictly part of Gloucestershire but here has been included within it. Lancashire, Merseyside has been included as a 'county' for the purposes of being able to highlight awardees associated with Liverpool, not just Lancashire.

In Scotland, Lanarkshire has been placed in central Scotland even though, geographically, much of it lies in southern Scotland. This is because Glasgow was in the county.

Ireland has not been sub-divided into regions.

The Vision of Britain website is extremely helpful for finding places, as is ScotlandsPlaces.
