Biography

John Aitcheson senior, inherited Belmont estate in Grenada following the death of his son John Aitcheson junior of Rochsolloch, Airdie, Scotland, c. 1770. In 1780, he left Scotland for Grenada and died at Belmont 31/05/1780 age 75. His will stipulated that Belmont was to be sold and the proceeds split between his daughters Bethia, Margaret and Isabella, and his nephew Gilbert Hamilton, a Glasgow merchant. Belmont was sold to 'Robert Alexander Houston' [probably Alexander Houstoun, q.v.] of Clerkington, East Lothian, Scotland.

John Aitcheson of Rochsolloch and his wife Bethia (sometimes given instead as Isobel) Sprule had 8 children baptised in Airdrie: John (1730), Christin (1731), Jean (1733), John (1734), Agnes (1737), Margaret (1739), Walter (1742), Hugh (1745).
