Biography

Son of William Alves of Enham (1780-1835) (q.v.). William Alves was the brother of Archibald, and co-owner of Rose Hall in 1817 with John Cameron. In 1801, William had married Sarah Davidson, daughter of London sugar merchant Duncan Davidson of Tulloch. Their son John Alves 'went out to Berbice' and became a civil magistrate by 1827. Married Susan Barclay Katz (née Fraser, daughter of Simon Fraser of Belladrum) 1837. John Alves is last recorded on Rose Hall in 1856: his wife died there in 1874.
