Biography

George Parker of Fairlie in Ayrshire. Partner in Sandbach Tinne until his retirement in 1836.

  1. George Parker married Ann Traill (1812-1873), the eldest child of Thomas Stuart Trail, professor of medical jurisprudence in the University of Edinburgh and his wife Christian Robertson. Christian was also the mother of Andrew Watson, Peter Miller Watson and Henry Robertson Watson (all q.v.) with her first husband James Watson who had died in 1808.

  2. George Parker was a partner with Charles Stewart Parker and Eneas Sage Kennedy in firms of C.S. Parker, Kennedy & Co. Liverpool and Kennedy, Parker & Co. Hamilton Ontario, from which C.S.Parker withdrew in 1844. George Parker died at New York 03/09/1860 leaving a widow Anne of Hamilton and under £3000 in effects in England.

  3. The births of the children of George Parker show his residences between 1837 and 1854: George (1837, Genoa, Italy), Emily (1838, Liverpool), Ada (Fairlie House, Ayrshire, 1839), Edward (Fairlie House, 1842), Evelyn Margaret (London, 1844), Ida Rosalie (Canada, 1854).

  4. There is a photograph of Ann Parker and three of her children, Emily, Ada and George at Fairlie House, probably around 1850, and another photo of the house itself. According to the same website, George and his family moved to America in 1854.

  5. Ann Parker, age 60, widow of George Parker, merchant, died at Fairlie, Largs, 10/01/1873. On her death certificate, her parents were given as Thomas Stewart Traill, M.D. and Christian Traill, formerly Watson, maiden surname Robertson.
