Biography

Son of Charles Snell Chauncy ne Snell, who died in 1809, and brother of Charles Snell Chauncy (each of whom q.v.). Nathaniel Snell Chauncy reportedly took his own life in 1856.

  1. Of Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, when he married Ann Oram Bannerman, daughter of John Alexander Bannerman, on 29/08/1814.

  2. West India merchant, partner with Philip Monoux Lucas and Charles Porcher Lang in Chauncy, Lucas & Lang until Lucas's death on or around 27/11/1830.

  3. Bought manor of Little Munden in 1816 and conveyed it to his brother Charles in 1844, from whom it passed to his daughter Elizabeth and her husband Henry Edward Surtees.

  4. Will of Nathaniel Snell Chauncy merchant of Wilson Street Finsbury Square proved 26/07/1856. In the will (made in 1848) he left his wife the proceeds of his life insurance policy with Imperial Life and instructed his executors and trustees to sell his estates in Jamaica, St Vincent, Tobago and the island of Leguan in Demerara. In a codicil of 26/05/1854 he added his son Augustus as an executor and trustee.
