Biography

London merchant and banker, 'confidential clerk' to Simon Fraser of Ness Castle for any years and then partner with Hon. Simon Fraser, the grandson of Simon Fraser of Ness Castle. He was also a partner in the banking firm of Sir John Perring Bart., Benjamin Shaw, Stephen Nicholson Barber and James Henry Houstoun. After his death between 1812 and 1814 his debts to his partners of £100,000 were pursued in the case of De Tastet against Shaw and others.

  1. Will of James Henry Houstoun merchant of Cornhill [with a codicil made in 1812] proved 03/11/1814. After monetary legacies totalling c. £1000 to his banking partners and others he left his estate to his wife Elizabeth.
