Stephen Payne-Gallwey

Brother of Sir William Payne Gallwey 1st bart. (q.v.). Shown (as Stephen Payne Gallway of Norfolk) in the will of William Priddie made in 1792 as selling Pond estate on St Kitts to Priddie for £19,640, of which £3640 had been paid. The estate and enslaved people appear to have reverted to the Gallwey family.

1. March 31st [1812] In Montague Street, Portman Square, [death of] Stephen Payne Galwey esq. of Thetford Norfolk. Many genealogical sources online, as well as the NPG and BM catalogues, show Stephen Payne Galwey dying in 1803; there is also possible confusion over his address in London [see below].

2. Administration of the will of Stephen Payne Galwey [sic] widower [late of Montague Place] of St Marylebone [made in 1781] granted 06/05/1812 to his only child Charlotte Augusta Payne Moseley. The will left £12,000 to his daughter Charlotte Augusta Payne and to any other child born to his wife Phila Payne Galwey.
