Biography

Son of slave-trader and slave-owner John Collard (d. 1788). John Marshall Collard, "about a year old", and Martha Amelia Collard, childen of John Collard, merchant, of St Augustine's, and Joanna his wife, baptised 21/01/1776 at Lewins Mead Chapel (a Unitarian meeting house), Bristol. John Marshall Collard of Cricklade St Mary, Wiltshire, bachelor, married Elizabeth Lysons of this parish in Rodmarton, 03/09/1799. Their son, also named John Marshall Collard, matriculated Exeter College in 1820 age 18; Alumni Oxonienses gives John Marshall Collard senior as of Ashley, Wiltshire, armigerous. [Rev.] John Marshall Collard junior was baptised 22/03/1802 in Cowley, Gloucestershire. John Marshall Collard senior was deceased by July 1810. Collard).
